IND 134 - Print Reading Credits: 2 Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 2 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech This course presents an overview of methods used in presenting and interpreting a variety of industrial blueprints and schematics. Students will develop the skills necessary to read and interpret symbols commonly found on industrial drawings and prints. Competencies
- Define standard terms, symbols, and notations used in industrial schematics
- Define common terms related to electrical and hydraulic diagrams
- Identify standard ANSI and ISO symbols used in prints
- Recognize abbreviations and notation styles commonly found on schematics
- Describe the function of different types of industrial drawings and schematics
- Describe the purpose of wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, and hydraulic circuit diagrams
- Distinguish between functional and schematic diagrams
- Describe how schematics support troubleshooting and maintenance tasks
- Identify components, line types, and connections within electrical and hydraulic schematics
- Identify basic circuit components
- Demonstrate the ability to trace circuit operation from schematic diagrams
- Demonstrate system operation based on the arrangement of components in the schematic
- Interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics to determine system function
- Interpret the sequence of operations in a simple control or fluid power circuit
- Follow signal and power paths through a system diagram
- Interpret directional control valve configurations and actuator positions
- Analyze schematics to diagnose potential faults or operational issues
- Analyze incomplete or malfunctioning circuits for missing or failed components
- Determine logical troubleshooting paths using schematic information
