The course addresses industry expectations for finding and submitting for musical theatre auditions. The course will include training in industry expectations at auditions for musical theatre. Students will have practical training in finding and preparing audition cuts. This course does not include performance; audition performance training should be paired in applied music lessons.
Competencies
  1. Break down typical industry expectations for actors at musical theatre auditions
    1. Develop an ability to consistently arrive at audition settings with comprehensive preparation
    2. Demonstrate exceptional etiquette for communicating with an accompanist
  2. Distinguish effective attributes of songs from musicals in audition settings
    1. Examine selected songs from effective lyricists and composers with focus on performance qualities in an audition setting
    2. Characterize aspects of the song as either effective or ineffective within an audition setting
    3. Compare potential songs in an actor’s own book in order to select effective contrasting material
  3. Organize audition material efficiently
    1. Produce effective audition songs from well-written plays
    2. Construct an easily accessed audition book
