Students will develop and apply the concepts of the strategic management process, which includes the analysis, examination, and evaluation of business issues.  Students will offer solutions to improve a business’ efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace. This course is recommended during the student’s final semester of study.
Prerequisite: A minimum total of 30 credit hours earned from the following disciplines: ACC  , BUS  , ECN  , MGT  , or MKT  .

  1. Critically analyze, examine, and evaluate strategic decisions that affect business organizations
    1. Evaluate strategic decisions affecting businesses
    2. Analyze relevant data to determine the appropriate course of action to remedy strategic issues faced by management
  2. Identify an existing problem, interpret key environmental data, and determine the source of the problem
    1. Examine a business’s corporate strategy to determine goals of the organization  
    2. Identify key stakeholders in the organization to determine sources of potential problems as well as constraints
  3. Discover symptoms of problems facing management using analytical skills
    1. Identify the competitive advantage of various business organization
    2. Compare and contrast best practices for analyzing business problems using tools such as SWOT or PESTLE analyses
  4. Develop alternative solutions and recommend effective, ethical, and cost-efficient resolutions for businesses to resolve management issues
    1. Research viable alternatives to recommend to management
    2. Estimate the cost-benefit analysis of potential solutions
  5. Develop effective communication skills to share processes used in determining business outcomes and problem resolution
    1. Devise a presentation to show strategic analysis of business challenges using research and best practices
    2. Design and present recommendations to business experts and/or classmates
  6. Review strategic management concepts, research, and theories
    1. Evaluate various strategic management theories
    2. Explain internal and external factors that affect an organization
  7. Manage the gap between business and management theory and practice
    1. Identify and transfer concepts and techniques learned in program courses such as marketing, accounting, finance, management, operations, and information systems to analyze specific business decisions
    2. Defend recommendations related to a real-world business problem to business experts, professionals, and/or classmates
