This course provides a comprehensive study of neonatal and pediatric respiratory care, emphasizing assessment, stabilization, and management of respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions. Students will gain knowledge in advanced monitoring, airway management, oxygen and aerosol therapies, surfactant and specialty gas administration, and the initiation and management of invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation, including high-frequency ventilation, in critically ill infants and children.

Critique cardiopulmonary monitoring in infants and children
1. Demonstrate the ability to perform and troubleshoot transcutaneous monitoring, pulse oximetry, and apnea monitoring in infants
2. Evaluate and interpret results from neonatal monitoring devices, incorporating quality control procedures to ensure accurate and reliable measurements
3. Obtain, evaluate, and interpret neonatal capillary blood gases to optimize respiratory care and patient outcomes
Evaluate the respiratory care of a neonatal and pediatric patients
1. Discuss airway management in infants and children
2. Discuss oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, airway clearance, and lung expansion in infants and children
