This course highlights the basic concepts of pharmacy organization and function. Drug development and general jurisprudence related to prescription and dispensing of medications will be explored. Broad categories of drugs will be discussed. Fluid therapy as it relates to patient physiology, hydration assessment, fluid delivery systems and maintenance of fluids will be reviewed.
Prerequisite: AGV 120 , AGV 128 , AGV 129 , AGV 231 , AGV 164

Compare and contrast proper procedures for administering medicines
1. Classify routes of administration of medications
2. Explain, according to established criteria, the location of appropriate intravenous, intramuscular, and subcutaneous injection sites
Interpret the basic principles of pharmacokinetics
1. Describe all routes of pharmaceutical administration
2. Identify how routes of administration differ in absorption, distribution, transformation, and excretion
Develop skills for common medical math calculations
1. Calculate constant rate infusion orders to deliver to patients
2. Use standard formulae to create medical dilutions
3. Execute analysis of pharmacy economics
Evaluate the laws and regulations governing medications for use in the United States of America
Assess hydration status of various common species
1. Identify body water compartments
2. List fluid administration techniques
