MMS 139 - Digital Cinematography

Introduction to the principles of visual design for motion pictures through the use of a camera. Focused Exploration of various cameras, lighting techniques, and styles used in digital filmmaking and video production for various genre work is emphasized. Discussions will cover advanced concepts and principles of camera operation, camera movement, use of lenses, composition, and lighting techniques.

  4. Practice basic camera techniques

    2. Apply composition rules to images

  6. Implement the use of space in a composition
    1. Employ depth-of-field, static, motion, zoom, pan, dolly, and truck in camera movement for video production
    2. Apply camera positioning to create atmosphere or mood
    3. Use variety of camera moves for specific effect
    4. Apply various lighting techniques to create a desired visual effect such as atmosphere, 
mood, or any other thematic implication and enhancement
  7. Design composition and blocking that tell a story
    1. Employ depth-of-field, static, motion, zoom, pan, dolly, and truck in camera movement for video production
    2. Differentiate between various production styles to implement the best use of actor blocking for hand-held vs. tripod vs. two-shot
