CRJ 198 - Bloodstain Pattern Analysis Credits: 2 Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 2 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Open This course of study is intended to introduce the student to basic recognition, preservation, development and collection of bloodstain evidence commonly found at crime scenes.

- Explain bloodstain pattern terminology and identification characteristics
- Describe bloodstain pattern analysis methodology and limitations
- Examine the size, shape, distribution and appearance of bloodstains and bloodstain patterns
- Discuss motion, direction, and point of convergence
- Describe how surface texture, height, and force affect bloodstains
- Demonstrate techniques of bloodstain pattern documentation
- Illustrate proficiency in preserving, documenting, and examining bloodstain evidence
- Identify differences between presumptive blood testing, confirmatory testing, blood enhancement chemicals, DNA testing and serological testing
- Examine the types of activities and mechanisms that may have produced bloodstain patterns
- Identify mixed and sequenced bloodstains
- Analyze how bloodstain patterns can be utilized to aid in case reconstruction
