Students will participate in professional activities at a college-approved funeral home to learn procedures and policies and perform duties directly relating to the practice of funeral service as assigned by the preceptor, licensed funeral home staff and faculty members.
Prerequisite: Completion of all Mortuary Science courses and consent of the program chairperson.
Corequisite: MOR 390 and MOR 940
Competencies

Complete notification of death
1. Identify information required for a notification of death
2. Document active participation by completing a Notification of Death Report for each notification
Complete transfer of remains
1. Identify appropriate PPEs to be worn
2. Identify appropriate equipment to be utilized
3. Document active participation by completing a Transfer of Remains Report for each transfer
Model principles and basic techniques of embalming a dead human body
1. Explain the conditions which impact the embalming cases
2. Plan the steps to complete the embalming cases
3. Document active participation by completing an Embalming Report for each case
Model principles and basic techniques of cosmetizing and restoring of a dead human body
1. Explain the conditions which impact the restoration cases
2. Plan the steps to complete the restoration cases
3. Document active participation by completing a Preparation for Disposition Report for each case
Demonstrate knowledge of various visitations related to fraternal, military, religious, and secular organizations
1. Assess the items needed during various religious and military visitations
2. Document active participation by completing a Visitation Report for each visitation
Demonstrate knowledge of conducting various funeral services related to fraternal, military, and religious organizations
1. Observe funeral arrangement conference with a licensed funeral director
2. Assess the items needed for various fraternal, religious, and military services
3. Document active participation by completing a Funeral Service Report for each service
Demonstrate knowledge of arrangement conferences
1. Identify various types of services offered
2. Perform duties and tasks assigned by the licensed funeral practitioner
3. Apply the laws and regulations governing funeral services
4. Document active observation by completing an Arrangement Conference Report for each arrangement.
