ADM 105 - Intro to Keyboarding Credits: 1 Lecture Hours: 0 Lab Hours: 2 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech The focus of this course is learning to type on the alphabetic and numeric keyboard using correct fingering and using touch typing. Proper keyboarding technique is covered. Competencies
- Demonstrate touch typing skills on the alphabetic reaches, figures, and symbols not using the Backspace key
- Key alphabetic material by touch at a minimum of 30 NWPM or better
- Key alphabetic material by touch with a minimum of 95% accuracy
- Demonstrate touch typing skills on the numeric keypad using the 10-key keypad
- Key numeric data by touch at a minimum of 8,000 KSPH or better
- Key numeric data by touch with a minimum of 98% accuracy
- Use Proper Keyboarding Techniques
- Demonstrate correct hand positioning, finger placement, and posture while using the touch method.
- Explain the five keyboarding posture rules that should be followed
- List the proper keyboarding finger reaches
- Improve Speed and Efficiency
- Develop strategies to increase efficiency through practice and use of online typing tools
- Evaluate personal typing progress and set goals for improvement
- Reflect on keyboarding skills and their application in a professional setting
- Key straight copy by touch for 3 minutes in a timed writing
- Key alphabetic material by touch for 3 minutes at a minimum rate of 30 NWPM or better not using the Backspace key with a 2-word deduction for each error
- Key numeric material by touch for 3 minutes at a minimum rate of 8,000 KSPH or better with a 98% accuracy
