MAP 346 - Clinical Procedures II Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 2 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech This course is a continuation of clinical skills. Students will use critical thinking skills to incorporate cognitive knowledge in the performance of psychomotor and affective domains during practice of surgical procedures. This course emphasizes pharmacology and administration of medications (oral and parenteral, excluding IV) with accurate documentation of various forms of medications. Dosage calculations and the physiological actions of drugs on the human body are addressed. Prerequisite: Grade “C” or better in MAP 345 Corequisite: MAP 228 Competencies

- Verify the rules of medication administration
- Select proper route of medication administration
- Perform oral medication administration
- Administer parenteral medications
- Apply concepts of pharmacology
- List indications and actions of medication
- Perform medication dosage calculations

- List guidelines for proper needle storage and use
- Dispose of needles according to OSHA guidelines
- Utilize medical abbreviations and symbols
- Select appropriate abbreviations for documentation in a medical record
- Identify abbreviations utilized in medication orders
- Perform wound care
- Select appropriate supplies for cleaning wound
- Select proper PPE for performing wound care
- Instruct patient regarding follow-up wound care
- Perform dressing change
- Select appropriate supplies and PPE
- List signs of infection
