  1. Institutional Regulations
    The College expects all employees to drive legally, responsibly, respectfully and with the utmost caution when operating motorized vehicles for College business. This includes not only College vehicles, but employee vehicles when used to conduct College business.
     
  2. Procedure
    1. Employees are required to be attentive drivers at all times whether operating a motorized College vehicle or their own motorized vehicle for College business. Inattentive includes, but is not limited to using cell phones to text, browse the internet or to play games. When operating a motorized vehicle for College business, it is recommended that employees pull over to a safe location when using all communication devices.  If a safe location is not available, hands free devices are recommended.
    2. Employees are required to follow all applicable laws while operating a motorized vehicle for College business.
    3. Employees are required to wear seatbelts at all times while operating a motorized vehicle for College business.
    4. Satisfactory Driving Record
      1. A satisfactory motor vehicle driving record is required for all employees and applicants recommended for employment in positions requiring operation of a motor vehicle. Security personnel and others operating College vehicles are also covered by this procedure.
      2. A satisfactory driving record and an employee’s eligibility to drive a motorized vehicle for College business will be based on guidance from the College auto insurance carrier, including what the carrier defines as major and minor violations.
      3. Applicants recommended for employment in positions requiring driving of a motorized vehicle shall only be approved for hire in those positions if the applicant is eligible to drive College vehicles based on guidance from the College auto insurance carrier.
      4. Employees approved to operate vehicles for College business are required to immediately inform their supervisor of any license revocations, restrictions, suspensions or adjudicated tickets or convictions issued for any moving violations.
    5. When a job description for a vacant position contains a requirement to operate a motorized vehicle, the requirement shall be listed on the Employment Opportunity posting.
    6. Human Resources shall ask the Physical Plant to check the Department of Transportation motor vehicle record of applicants who are recommended for employment in positions requiring a satisfactory driving record. A final offer of employment shall not be extended until a report is received indicating a satisfactory driving record.
    7. The Physical Plant shall review the motor vehicle record of all employees operating College motorized vehicles and those who drive personal motorized vehicles to conduct College business. A motor vehicle record review shall be completed on at least an annual basis.
    8. Motor vehicle record reports shall be maintained in the Physical Plant.
    9. The names of current employees and security personnel operating College motorized vehicles will be submitted to the auto insurance carrier by the College as requested. Only those employees who meet eligible driving standards as determined by the auto insurance carrier shall be allowed to drive College motorized vehicles.
    10. Any violations of the above items may result in discipline up to and including termination.
