  1. Institutional Regulations

    The Commons apartments exist to provide housing to guests of DMACC who wish to stay on the Ankeny Campus.
     
  2. Procedure
    1. Accommodations - Two residential units located on the west side of the campus are available, each with two bedrooms containing two single beds.
    2. Eligibility. The use of the Commons is restricted to international visitors, dignitaries, DMACC Board members, and job applicants for faculty or administrative positions. Guests are to be on DMACC business. The President has the right to approve other visitors.
    3. Length of Stay. Visitors may stay one day or one semester. Normally, longer stays will be restricted to international visitors. Any stay lasting longer than five days must have the express consent of one of the following three people the Director of the International Institute, the Director of the Physical Plant, or Dean of Sciences and Humanities. Stays longer than two weeks require the approval of a Vice President.
    4. Reservations.
      1. Call the DMACC Physical Plant or contact the Coordinator of the International Institute and provide names, permanent addresses, business phone numbers and purpose of stay. Reservations must be made at least one week in advance.
      2. Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis, early notice is essential. There is normally no cost to eligible users.
      3. Associated, but non College visitors will be charged $50 per day.
    5. Check-In.
      1. Keys may be picked up from the Physical Plant Office (Building 12) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. After hours, the security guard should be paged on the cellular phone (964-6500). If the guest has a designated host on campus, that person may pick up the key card from the Physical Plant in advance during regular working hours.
      2. Both units are protected by an electronic security system. The units should not be entered unless the alarm has been deactivated by Campus Security. At check-in time, the security guard or host will show guests how to activate the security system for their personal use.
      3. There is no automatic stocking of food for guests. In most cases, there will be a designated DMACC host who will be responsible for basic food acquisition.
      4. Cleaning supplies, soap and linens will be supplied. The Physical Plant will be responsible for this inventory.
    6. During the Stay
      1. Local phone calls are free. Dial a 9 to get an outside line. Long-distance calls will be billed to the guest unless prior arrangements are made through the host.
      2. DMACC employees do not do daily cleaning, laundry or cooking during the stay. Guests are responsible for their own housekeeping.
    7. Checkout
      1. Key cards should be returned to Physical Plant (Bldg. 12) during regular hours or placed in the drop box by the front door (Bldg. 12) after hours. The Physical Plant must be notified of exact departure time so that the apartments can be properly cleaned and the alarm system activated.
    8. The apartment should be left in clean condition. The host must conduct an inventory of furniture and supplies after the visit. The guest is responsible for missing items.
    9. Host. All of the above details are to be facilitated by a DMACC host. In the case of international visitors without transportation, it is essential that the host be responsible for reservations, groceries and guest mobility. Guests are not entitled to reserve DMACC vehicles for their use. The host will be responsible for familiarizing the guest(s) with the proper use of the oven, dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, microwave oven, and other appliances as necessary.
