BD2042 - Board Treasurer Duties

The Board treasurer’s duties shall be:

  1. Receiving money on behalf of the college.
  2. Paying money only upon order of the chair and countersigned by the secretary.
  3. Receiving warrants signed by the chair and countersigned by the secretary.
  4. Keeping accurate records of all receipts and expenditures.
  5. Registering all checks and orders drawn and reported by the secretary by showing the number, date, to whom drawn, fund upon which drawn, and the purpose and amount.
  6. Maintaining accurate separate accounts of all funds, overseeing cash management in investments, establishing checking accounts, and bidding of bank services. 
  7. Preparing monthly financial statements for Board review.
  8. Depositing funds in banks designated by the Board as the official depositories, and file a list of such depositories with the county and state treasurers.
  9. Maintaining records of bond, warrant, or certificate buyers.
  10. Conducting monthly spot-audits of expenditure claims against the college.
  11. Serving as Board secretary in the secretary’s absence.
  12. Establishing a written system of internal controls and investment practices in conjunction with the controller.
  13. Submitting a quarterly investment report summarizing current market conditions and recent investment strategies in conjunction with the senior controller.
  14. Performing other duties potentially required by the Board or by law.
