MFG 354 - CNC Lathe Setup and Oper Lab Credits: 1 Lecture Hours: 0 Lab Hours: 2 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech An introductory level course for set-up and operating a CNC lathe in a lab environment. Prerequisite OR Corequisite: MFG 251 or Instructor Approval Competencies
- Perform maintenance on the CNC Lathe.
- Perform daily maintenance requirements
- Check oil, hydraulic, and coolant levels
- Adjust work holding (jaw) pressure.
- Adjust chuck jaws and torque screws to specifications.
- Set Spindle Speed Cap.
- Set-up of the CNC Lathe
- Load and retrieve program files to and from flash drives and computers.
- Simulate and verify programs.
- Explain and set work, geometry, wear offsets.
- Load parts using various work holding devises: 3 jaw, collet chucks
- Set cutters and change inserts, drills, threading tools, and boring bars.
- Write MDI programs using the control panel.
- Make MINOR CNC code changes to a program. I.E. Feed Rates
- Verify tool position using Probe
- Measure geometry offsets without Probe.
- Operate the CNC Lathe
- Safely position tool to work piece while validating coordinates.
- Adjust speeds and feeds as required.
- Inspect cutting tool conditions.
- Wear appropriate safety gear.
