This course teaches basic desktop publishing skills using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Students learn the software tools as they produce projects like those found in the graphic design industry. Projects include photo editing and color adjusting images, drawing vector art for illustrations, and laying out pages for various print documents.

  1. Evaluate how to use a Macintosh computer using current operating system     
    1. Demonstrate how to power up and shut down computer in approved manner 
    2. Apply Navigation at desktop level using hierarchical filing system
    3. Select documents, folders and applications to open as needed
    4. Explore computer operations using pull-down menus and menu commands
    5. Demonstrate how to open existing documents from removable drive, hard drive and file server
    6. Distinguish between fonts using font management software
  2. Perform Macintosh computer operations within a networked environment       
    1. Demonstrate how to use all network elements
    2. Explain how a network can increase workflow efficiency
    3. Apply Internet access protocol to connect to Internet
    4. Demonstrate how to log onto file server using assigned account and password

    1. Describe how to access removable drive, file server and hard drive for storage and retrieval of files
    2. List correct information for document title and file name
    3. Select appropriate file format information
  4. Modify bit-mapped images using photo editing software
    1. Examine software interface
    2. Distinguish between software menu commands and panels
    3. Discuss information displayed in program dialog boxes
    4. Identify by name and function software tools contained in the toolbox

    6. Produce selections as masks in channels panel
