ELT 725 - Intro Flexible Manufacturing Credits: 2 Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 2 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech This course introduces the student to aspects of a flexible manufacturing cell. Course will familiarize the student with cell software and hardware, and includes labs on cell components. Prerequisite: ELT 721 Corequisite: ELT 722 or Instructor Approval. Competencies
- Set-up and prepare CNC mill for cell integration
- Create CNC mill code for simple machining
- Edit CNC mill code for simple machining
- Download programs using direct numerical control (DNC)
- Set-up tools as required by machine program
- Integrate communication between cell and CNC mill
- Utilize programmable logic controller
- Write PLC logic into the controller
- Edit existing PLC programs
- Save and delete PLC programs
- Program and operate the AS/RS (automatic storage and retrieval system).
- Identify AS/RS components
- Teach controller bay locations
- Program and operate a SCARA robot
- Teach program points for operation
- Create and edit robot programs using C/ROS language
- Identify SCARA robot components
- Program and operate a general purpose robot
- Teach program points for operation
- Create robot programs using VAL language
- Edit robot programs using VAL language
- Identify general purpose robot components
- Program and operate a vision inspection system
- Define different methods of vision inspection
- Identify vision inspection components
- Manipulate cell conveyor hardware
- Describe the function of pallet stops and postioners
- Explain the interaction between the conveyor control and the cell components
- Describe the usage of external devices such as vibratory bowl feeders, tooling air, end effectors
- Gain familiarity with manufacturing control software
- Create a basic FactoryLink application
- Animate the application
- Run the application
