Emphasis on resident’s needs, services, rights and federal and state rules and regulations. This course meets 80 hours of the state required practicum in Social Services. Competencies
- Assess individual resident’s physical, intellectual, social, creative, spiritual, and emotional needs.
- Evaluate assessment and reassessment tools.
- Determine the importance of charting and residents? progress notes.
- Appraise a care plan conference.
- Assess resident council’s function and role.
- Determine the level of family involvement and support groups.
- Appraise the importance of resident confidentiality.
- Examine the social workers’ and other department staff job descriptions and responsibilities.
- Review each staff position, authority, and accountability.
- Appraise the social service department’s role in the process of preadmission, admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Analyze the role and needs of the resident’s family.
- Investigate direct services to residents and families.
- Investigate services to staff, community, and agencies.
- Examine the social workers’ and other department staff job descriptions and responsibilities.
- Explain all rules and regulations in appropriate manuals and documents relating to the social services department.
- Relate rules and regulations to resident’s rights.
- Evaluate quality assurance and continuous quality improvement processes.
