FLS 242 - Intermediate Spanish II Credits: 4 Lecture Hours: 4 Lab Hours: 0 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Core Having studied most of the grammar in previous courses, time will be spent reviewing the more difficult and troublesome concepts including a continuation of the study of the subjunctive mood. Comprehensible input now includes more extensive readings in Spanish literature, newspapers, websites or other print, as well as visual media. While serving to increase vocabulary and knowledge of grammar, they also serve as a source of cultural information. Prerequisite: FLS 241 or instructor’s permission Competencies
- Achieve mastery of writing and speaking in the past, present, and future times using the simple tenses and perfect tenses, including the two simple past tenses. In this way, students will be able to talk and write on subjects with greater range of vocabu
- Acquire vocabulary based on personal interest as well as from text materials used in class
- Gain better control and understanding of the subjunctive mood and use it appropriately in specific situations
- Summarize, analyze, and develop opinions on reading passages orally or in writing.
- Filter for important information and draw conclusions based on contextual and linguistic cues
- Use film and audio selections to hone accent and fluency of speech.
- Conduct a simple research project based on themes drawn from the reading selections
