- Develop critical reading and writing skills
- Identify literary elements in fiction
- Demonstrate active reading and rereading for the purpose of creative writing
- Apply reading of student and/or published texts to the act creative of writing
- Examine various approaches to crafting works of fiction
- Comprehend fiction writing techniques
- Determine the purpose and effect of creative writing techniques as they relate to composing fiction
- Compose original creative works of fiction
- Demonstrate effective creative writing process
- Construct multiple works of fiction
- Incorporate various creative writing approaches, such as character, plot, point of view, etc.
- Critique original student writing as part of the creative process
- Demonstrate awareness of craft elements in a peer’s writing
- Assess effectiveness use of techniques in a peer’s work
- Synthesize critiques as an avenue to revision
- Revise one’s own work for the purpose of substantial development
- Review the use of fiction techniques applied to individual written work
