ELT 644 - Process Control Instr Lab Credits: 2 Lecture Hours: 0 Lab Hours: 4 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech This lab includes experiments on transducers used in process control as well as experiments on proportional, integral and derivative control. Corequisite: ELT 642 Competencies
- Generate square, sawtooth, and sine waveforms using a D/A converter and the u85 trainer
- Interface the converter with the u85
- Write and implement the programs to generate the waveforms
- Evaluate the cantilever beam mounted strain gage used to measure displacement and weight
- Determine the effect of using one verses two gauges
- Determine the effects of temperature upon measurements
- Evaluate the low pass filter
- Determine the accuracy of the amplifier gains
- Graph Vo verses weight
- Graph Vo verses beam displacement
- Determine beam and GF parameters
- Create a readout on the DMM that will read grams directly
- Create a readout on the DMM that will read mm displacement
- Evaluate the linear voltage differential transformer
- Graph V of one secondary verses core position
- Graph differential secondary output verses core position
- Check amplifier gains
- Create a readout on the DMM that will read mm displacement
- Evaluate the linear voltage differential capacitor
- Graph capacitor position verses Vo
- Determine where the output is linear
- Create a readout on the DMM that will read mm displacement
- Evaluate the Hall effect transducer
- Graph I through an electromagnet verses flux intensity for both magnetic polarities
- Observe magnetic hysteresis
