ELT 644 - Process Control Instr Lab

This lab includes experiments on transducers used in process control as well as experiments on proportional, integral and derivative control.
Corequisite: ELT 642  
Competencies
  1. Generate square, sawtooth, and sine waveforms using a D/A converter and the u85 trainer
    1. Interface the converter with the u85
    2. Write and implement the programs to generate the waveforms
  2. Evaluate the cantilever beam mounted strain gage used to measure displacement and weight
    1. Determine the effect of using one verses two gauges
    2. Determine the effects of temperature upon measurements
    3. Evaluate the low pass filter
    4. Determine the accuracy of the amplifier gains
    5. Graph Vo verses weight
    6. Graph Vo verses beam displacement
    7. Determine beam and GF parameters
    8. Create a readout on the DMM that will read grams directly
    9. Create a readout on the DMM that will read mm displacement
  3. Evaluate the linear voltage differential transformer
    1. Graph V of one secondary verses core position
    2. Graph differential secondary output verses core position
    3. Check amplifier gains
    4. Create a readout on the DMM that will read mm displacement
  4. Evaluate the linear voltage differential capacitor
    1. Graph capacitor position verses Vo
    2. Determine where the output is linear
    3. Create a readout on the DMM that will read mm displacement
  5. Evaluate the Hall effect transducer
    1. Graph I through an electromagnet verses flux intensity for both magnetic polarities
    2. Observe magnetic hysteresis
