ELT 475 - Communications Systems Lab Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 0 Lab Hours: 6 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech Laboratory experiments in radio, television, satellite and microwave systems, including the construction and alignment of a broadcast radio receiver. Prerequisite: ELT 387 , ELT 388 . Corequisite: ELT 474 Competencies
- Construct a portable cassette player from kit
- Perform required circuit tests
- Construct an AM-FM receiver from kit
- Identify each section
- Tune each section
- Prepare a TV receiver for service
- Establish a safe and functional configuration with the screen and mirror.
- Connect the receiver to an isolation transformer
- Analyze the main stages in a TV receiver
- Identify the stages
- Measure the operating characteristics of each stage
- Setup a satellite receiver
- Install cabling
- Align the receiver
- Set up the baseline operating characteristics of the CRT
- Center the picture
- Level the raster
- Calibrate the CRT
- Adjust the brightness, contrast, color and tint controls for a proper picture
- Adjust the horizontal hold for maximum stability
- Adjust the vertical hold for maximum stability
- Adjust the vertical height and linearity for the proper raster
- Verify if HV is within tolerance as listed by the manufacturer
- Adjust for zero beam current
- Locate satisfactory ground for HV meter lead
- Connect HV probe to CRT second anode
- Measure high voltage
- Perform a final safety check on a TV receiver
- Check for RF leakage
